We recently had the pleasure of speaking with rising actress and singer Daisy Close, whose journey from local theater in Dallas to performing at Carnegie Hall and acting in Taylor Sheridan’s Landman series is nothing short of inspiring. In our conversation, Daisy opened up about her passion for performing, the challenges she’s faced breaking into the industry, and her deep-rooted drive to represent her Peruvian-American heritage. With a strong message about staying authentic and resilient, Daisy Close is clearly an artist to watch.

Can you please introduce yourself to our readers? Tell us where you’re from and how you got started as an actress?

Thank you so much for having me; it’s an absolute pleasure to be here and be able to share my journey throughout the entertainment industry thus far with all of your readers. My name is Daisy Close, and I was born and raised in Dallas, Texas, now working and about to live full-time in Los Angeles, California. Acting has always been a huge passion and love of mine since my childhood. Being an only child with a big imagination, I grew up watching many movies and TV shows as a source of entertainment, and many of them left a lasting impact on me when it came to my dreams and aspirations of becoming an actress myself one day. I would admire several actors I liked from my favorite movies and shows, and I remember thinking to myself that I wanted to be just like them one day. I told my mom my dreams of becoming an actress, as she was such a supportive mother figure and always has been in my life. She enrolled me in every acting class, musical theater lesson, and community theater production she could find near me in hopes of discovering and evolving that ever-growing love and passion of mine for the performing arts. My dreams stuck with me throughout my childhood all the way through the end of high school when I decided it was time for me to take my dream of becoming an actress seriously and dedicated the rest of my life towards pursuing that dream until it comes true.

When did you first realize you wanted to become an actress?

Hmm, that’s a tough question. I wouldn’t say there was a specific moment when I first realized I wanted to become an actress. I was always an enthusiastic and energetic kid who expressed herself loudly and freely. I enjoyed being silly and doing character impressions out of nowhere, breaking into song in the middle of Walmart while my mom was shopping, and creating choreography to put on productions in my room for fun until I realized one day that what I was doing was essentially acting; I just didn’t understand it until that time. I always like to say that acting and the performing arts actually found me because they were my safe haven all

throughout my childhood and life. I don’t know what I would do or who the person I would be today if it wasn’t for the major role the performing arts have played throughout the course of my life.

Who or what inspired you to pursue this career?

Oh, so many memories, experiences, and people have inspired me to pursue this career, but if it came down to one factor that has led me to pursuing this career consistently throughout the twenty years of my life, that would have to be my dying passion and love for the performing arts. I grew up with such a strong love for the performing arts, and as the years pass by, that love only begins to grow stronger and stronger with each passing day. Acting and the performing arts is more than just a career to me; it’s quite literally my identity; it’s who I am. I couldn’t imagine what my life would be like without it. It hasn’t always been easy pursuing this career, but it has given me so much strength in ways I could never have fathomed possible if it wasn’t for pursuing this path. I have grown immensely not only in my talents but also in my confidence and self-worth throughout the years. You have to have thick skin in order to pursue this industry, and that in turn gives you that much-needed thick skin to survive the reality of the harsh world that surrounds us all.

I am thankful for every rejection and every no because it has led me to this place of self-discovery with an unstoppable drive and ambition like no other to keep showing up. Not for others, but for myself and for the little girl who yearns inside of me to make our dreams come true. In a way, that little girl inspires me to keep pushing towards pursuing my dreams every day, even on the days that I feel unmotivated. She brings me a sense of purpose that nothing else ever could.

How did your first break in the entertainment industry come about?

My first break in the entertainment industry would have to be when I was four years old and got my first ever cover as a child model for an edition of DFW Child in Dallas. I remember my mom being so proud of that accomplishment and how happy it made me. She bought a bunch of the magazines and sent them to all of my family back home in Peru and framed a few around my

room and our home. What I remember the most is her taking me out for ice cream the day the issue got released, and I was so happy because I got to get birthday cake ice cream, which was my favorite flavor. I remember I felt so special because I got to get birthday cake ice cream even though it wasn’t even my birthday.

What have been some of the biggest highlights or milestones in your acting career so far?

Some of the biggest highlights in my acting career so far would have to be being on season two of Landman on Paramount Plus set to premiere this fall and being on Walker on CW. Also performing as a first-place winner, judges’ distinction, and soloist at Carnegie Hall after winning an international talent competition in the musical theater category. A big milestone for me in my acting career thus far would be my roster of representation. I am very proud to be signed with several reputable acting agencies in Los Angeles, including DDO Artists, Eris Talent, and The Wayne Agency.

Can you share your most memorable film, TV, or commercial experience?

My most memorable TV experience would have to be filming season two of Landman. Since season two has not been released yet, I’m unable to share specific details, but it was a very memorable experience for me because it was one of my first times being able to experience

what it was like to be a working actress on a high-scale set. Just being able to be in the room where it happens, taking in the glitz and glam of it all, felt so surreal and magical to me.

What type of acting do you enjoy most (e.g., film, TV, commercial, theatrical)?

That’s a great question; it’s difficult because they are all so much fun and so different in their own ways, but if I had to choose one avenue of acting, it would have to be film/TV. I find it exhilarating being on camera, and I love the vast connection you are able to create with your audience when acting on camera versus acting on stage. I love making an impact with my work. One of the many reasons why I love acting and being an actress is because I get to tell such beautiful and important stories that would otherwise go unnoticed or underappreciated if it weren’t for the beautiful art that is acting. Acting on camera allows me to capture those moments in time and gives me a wider audience to connect with and share these stories and moments with. At the end of the day, my job as an actress is to make you feel something, and I love using film/TV as my outlet to positively impact as many people as I can through my work. My ultimate dream as an actress is to act in movies and TV series, so I also lean more towards film and TV, as that is a bit more in line with my pursuits.

Have you faced any challenges in the industry, and how did you overcome them?

Oh boy, if I had a dime a dozen for every time I’ve been asked this question. I’m so glad this question gets asked because as much as I love pursuing a career in the entertainment industry, I like to be transparent about my journey because it really has been anything but easy. The harsh reality of being a performing artist and pursuing a career in the entertainment industry is that it is so tough to break in. The competition is so fierce in this generation, especially now more than ever. You really have to have all of your bearings together before you are even able to begin your journey. My hardest challenge that I have had to overcome and face throughout my journey of pursuing a career in this industry is the constant battle of rejection and an unstable income we as artists face when pursuing a career in the performing arts. Like I mentioned earlier, this industry isn’t for the weak. You really do have to have thick skin because the reality of the matter is all of my successes I am praised for come from a long line of rejections and closed doors behind the scenes of it all. Rejection doesn’t faze me anymore because I know my talents and abilities, and I am confident in what I am able to bring to the table regardless of the outcome of any opportunity or audition, but it took me a while to get to that place of reassurance and knowing that the right opportunities will not pass me by. Now I mainly struggle to face the fact that as an artist, you never really know what your income will look like from one month to the next. One month I could be booked up to the brim while another month I’m fighting to land my next gig. As I grow older, the more scared I become knowing that one of the sacrifices I must make to pursue my dreams in the entertainment industry is an unstable income, but I’ve learned how to manage my finances to set myself up for success no matter the outcome of my financial situation each month. I choose to live in a positive mindset, and I see this struggle as a way for me to appreciate each opportunity I’m given and not take anything for granted. I separate my work from my personal life and don’t let my successes or failures determine the person I am or aspire to become. Most importantly, I’ve learned not to take anything personally and to live in the moment and appreciate the journey. One day I know I’ll be able to look back at my journey and smile because I’ll understand that I had to endure all of those struggles to get to the place I will be in that moment.

How do you prepare physically and mentally before filming or rehearsing a scene?

That’s also a really good question. As an actress, our jobs are very mentally and physically demanding, so I always try to clear my head and remain in a good headspace to prepare before filming or rehearsing a scene. Of course, every actor has their own way to prepare prior to filming or rehearsal, but I like to completely remove myself from any distractions and immerse myself into the shoes and the world of the character I am preparing to step into. I channel my thoughts, senses, energy, and everything in and around me to how the character would think, act, and feel in that moment. I remain present with myself in hindsight of who I am trying to become. I keep the parts of myself that I feel can relate to my character grounded, and I use the

parts that are different as a guide to how I can channel myself into my character to make all of me feel more alive in my work.

How would you describe your personal style?

I would describe my personal style as girly, fun, and vibrant!

Who are your favorite designers or brands to work with?

My favorite brands to work with would have to be PINK and Victoria’s Secret. I am currently working as an influencer and content creator for both brands, and I am absolutely in love with all of their clothing and loungewear. I’ve loved PINK and Victoria’s Secret since I was in middle school, and to be representing their brand as an influencer now feels like such a full-circle moment.

What is one fashion trend you absolutely love and one you wish would go away?

Ooh, I’ve never been asked that question in an interview before. I would have to say I absolutely love the 2000s/Y2K girly and vintage trend. I love the rhinestones, cheetah print, and vintage denim pieces. I’m not sure what fashion trend I wish would go away; I think fashion is subjective, and different styles look good on different people. I guess if I had to pick one trend in fashion to go away, it would be camo. Sorry, not sorry! It’s just not my thing.

Outside of acting, what hobbies or passions do you enjoy?

Outside of acting, I do a lot of singing and songwriting, as I am an artist myself with several original songs available on all music streaming platforms. I’m always in the studio recording or writing up a storm. I am also a working model, influencer, and content creator. I am very passionate about dancing, and my hobbies include working out, running, traveling, listening to

music, watching movies, spending time with my friends and family, shopping, and taking pictures. I’m very active and love to try new activities, especially if they’re outdoors. My favorite place is the beach. If I could spend every day tanning, swimming, walking, and listening to music on the beach, I would!

How do you use your platform to influence or inspire others?

I use my platform to inspire others in a positive way. I’ve mentioned it before, but I want my work to come from a place of positive inspiration to show the next generation of performing artists that their dreams are achievable and valid regardless of what anyone says. I want them to be able to look at my success and say, “If Daisy did it, then I can do it too.” Being half Peruvian, I also want to inspire other young Peruvian girls to pursue their dreams to their hearts’ fullest extent. I want to inspire the younger generation by showing them how beautiful it is to be authentic to themselves and who they are in their entirety. I want them to be a force in this world and to make a difference with their voice, never giving anyone around them the power to dim their light.

What message do you hope to send through your work as an actress?

I hope to send a message of unity and belonging as an actress. I think especially in this generation our world is more broken than ever, and what makes me feel so liberated about being a performing artist in this industry is that I am able to tell such impactful stories, whether that be through acting or singing, and change the perspective of so many people through art form. Nothing connects more people or speaks volumes like the arts can, and I think that’s such a special gift I harness, and I want to be sure I use it to the best of my ability to unite us with love and a sense of belonging in this world. I hope to be able to bring people closer together through my work and to have others be able to look at one another and see their strengths and beauty rather than their weaknesses and flaws. Most importantly, I hope to send a message of peace and purpose for all to feel. My job as an actress is to bring you into a realm that exists beyond reality. If I can make my audience forget about all of their worries even for a split second through my work and be transported to a world of wonder, then I know I’ve done my job.

Do you have any goals or projects coming up you’d like to share with our readers?

Yes! I have several projects in the works that I’d love to share with your readers; however, due to contracts, I’m unable to share specific details about those certain projects. I will say that I’ve been filming something very exciting, and I can’t wait for you all to see it. I am also in the studio putting the final touches on recording and writing my debut EP set to release very soon! And lastly, I will be continuing my studies at UCLA this coming fall as a drama student, and I couldn’t be more excited to finally call Los Angeles my home.

What advice would you give to aspiring actors trying to break into the industry?

If I had to give one piece of advice to any aspiring actors trying to break into the industry, that would be to just be yourself. As I mentioned before, any opportunity that is meant for you will not pass you by. I know it’s easier said than done, but try not to stress out so much and just enjoy the journey because one day it’ll all be over and you’ll look back regretting you didn’t live in the moment when you had the chance. Be one hundred percent authentically you, and the right opportunities will come your way with hard work, perseverance, and time. Never be afraid to show all of you because your true colors are what make you so special and will separate you from the rest. Be persistent in your pursuits and always remember your “why” so when times get hard, you can be reminded of why you started in the first place, and it’ll motivate you to overcome your challenges and continue to strive for success.

Heels or sneakers?

I love heels, but I’ve got to go with sneakers! Fashionable sneakers because then you can still dress with style, but it’s more versatile to go anywhere and do anything.

Favorite fashion city: Paris, Milan, New York, or London?

It would be such a dream to visit all of these cities! The only city I’ve visited so far out of this lineup is New York, but I think Paris would be my favorite! I’ve been dying to see the Eiffel Tower.
