Variety’s Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch brunch was held on friday as a part of the 35th Annual Palm Springs International Film Festival. In this festival they honored the most influential actors and directors who have worked and marked their presence in Hollywood over the past year. The esteemed guest who joined the occasion the Variety’s Creative Impact Awards and 10 Directors to Watch brunch was Penélope Cruz, Sean Penn, and Emma Stone.
Penélope Cruz, aged 49, was honored with a prestigious award by Sean Penn, aged 63. While taking that acknowledgement she expressed her gratitude. She was the one who called Cruz, as an “acting animal” known for her remarkable performances in films like “Ferrari,” and possessing exceptional “intuitiveness and imagination.”
Penn further expressed his admiration for Cruz for being multilingual; in English, Spanish, and even Italian-speaking films. Despite his limited language skills, Penn confessed to never needing subtitles while watching her films.
Penn’s description showed how Cruz is skillful in acticing, conveying emotions properly and connecting with viewers.
“I consider myself fortunate to make a career out of acting,” she expressed with gratitude.
Cruz shared her early passion for acting and how she initially discovered it through ballet during her childhood. “I still remember when I was four, and requested my teacher to let me act as Carmen. And at that point, the teacher contacted my parents and informed them about my passion. From that point on, my journey into acting began”.

Among the distinguished guests present at the awards brunch were Mark Ruffalo (Poor Things), Lily Gladstone (Killers of the Flower Moon), Willem Dafoe (Poor Things), Jeffrey Wright (American Fiction), and Danielle Brooks (The Color Purple).

The occasion was graced by esteemed directors Anna Kendrick (Woman of the Hour), Cord Jefferson (American Fiction), Blitz Bazawule (The Color Purple), Kobi Libii (American Society of Magical Negroes), Ilker Çatak (The Teachers’ Lounge), Titus Kaphar (Exhibiting Forgiveness), and Aaron Schimberg (A Different Man).
