At 80 years old, Joni Mitchell is embarking on a journey of her career at this age. Mitchell’s performance was captured on tape and eventually made available as the 2023 album. This led to the singer receiving her first-ever Grammy nomination in a folk category.
The “Big Yellow Taxi” singer will make her first-ever appearance at the Grammy Awards event to be held on February 4th, the record-breaking artist said in a press release on Sunday.
For her CD Joni Mitchell At Newport [Live], the 80-year-old Mitchell is up for one Grammy in the best folk album category. On Sunday, the “River” singer also revealed the performance on her Instagram page.
She now performs live from The Sphere, their residency venue in Las Vegas, Nevada, among a list of artists that already includes Billie Eilish, Billy Joel, Dua Lipa, Luke Combs, Burna Boy, Olivia Rodrigo, Travis Scott, and U2.
Mitchell has already received nine Grammy Award victories and has received a total of eighteen nominations. Her most recent Grammy was for Joni Mitchell Archives, Vol. 1: The Early Years (1963–1967), which she won for best historical album in 2022.
2022 was a big year for Mitchell. In July 2022, she performed live for the first time in twenty years at the Newport Folk Festival. On February 4, the 66th Grammy Awards will air on CBS and Paramount+. Live coverage of it will take place at Los Angeles’ Crypto.com Arena.
