Meryl Streep and Martin Short refuted the dating rumors that went viral on social media.
The 73-year-old comedian and actor debunked rumors that he is dating his 74-year-old costar from “Only Murders in the Building” when he joined Bill Maher on Sunday’s edition of Club Random.
After joking that they were a “power couple” podcast host Maher said, “We’re not a couple, we are just very close friends”, Short responded.
In answer, Maher, 68, laughingly said, “Well, you should because there’s nothing more powerful in Hollywood than a power couple.” “It worked for Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman, it worked for Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.”
Fans thought that Short and Streep were close after their appearance at the Golden Globes earlier this month, which sparked rumors that the two were dating.
At the time, an insider for Short told PEOPLE that “the two are just very good friends, nothing more.”

Actress Nancy Dolman and Short tied the knot from 1980 until her death in 2010 from ovarian cancer. Together, Katherine Elizabeth (40), Oliver Patrick (37), and Henry Hayter (34), are their children.
