McKenna Camille is an actress, singer/songwriter, and now recent graduate of the renowned Tisch School of the Dramatic Arts in New York City. This young talent truly enjoys what she does, and it shows in her work! Her personality shines through in both her music and her social media presence. Recently, she took time away from her work and travels for this interview about her passion and her plans for the coming year.

You are an actress and singer/songwriter. How did you find your passion for performing?

Honestly it was through watching Hannah Montana! After just one episode I was hooked and instantly decided I wanted to act and sing just like her. Since then, I’ve worked in so many fun theater and film projects and music projects as well that have easily fueled my continued passion for both acting and music and I’m lucky it’s been so continuous!

What would be your dream role as an actress?

This is a question we got asked a lot in college so by now it’s an easy answer for me. I would love to be some crossover of Rapunzel and Black Widow so like if Black Widow were a Disney princess, I guess? I have so many other roles I would love to play but this has been my most consistent answer for years!

What do you look for in a role?

Fun. Even when looking at a more dramatic part, I chose to be an actor because of how much fun I have doing it. I don’t want to take on a role I don’t see myself having fun in. This doesn’t necessarily mean I look for comedy, I can find fun in any genre, but I would hate to be a character that didn’t have fun creating or living in, I think that takes away from art for me.

As a singer, what is your favorite genre to sing?

Now it has to be pop because that is what I sing most often, but in high school I would’ve said jazz or anything from Broadway.

How do you come up with ideas for your songs?

I wish I could have a really cool answer for this question, one day maybe I will but honestly, they typically are random. I write very frequently, and always write ideas down in my notes app so there’s no true method I have.

You have performed live several times. What has been your favorite live performance?

I don’t think I have a favorite performance! I just recently performed for the first time ever in New York City, so maybe I will say that one! Performing in New York has been a goal of mine for so long and I’m so grateful that I had the opportunity.

How important do you think networking is to a budding career?

Extremely. I think we are always networking, even if not intentionally. No matter how you feel about networking in general, good or bad, I love meeting new people and learning from new people, so I see it as a positive boost no matter the interaction!

Are there any upcoming projects you can share with our readers?

Super soon! I have been working on a couple short films the last couple months that I am really excited about, and I am planning on releasing some new music this summer….and maybe some covers! Even with all that, after a much-needed break from my heavy social media presence I am happy to say I will be posting some amazing content! Stay tuned!
