Miley Cyrus won the first Grammy award, kicking off the 2024 ceremony. After defeating Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Olivia Rodrigo, and Taylor Swift with her performance on “Flowers,” she won the award for Best Pop Solo Performance. However, when she walked the red carpet to get honor from Mariah Carey, she couldn’t help but gush over the fellow pop queen who would acknowledge her with the award.

She gave an acknowledgment to Mariah Carey, who gave her the honor, before beginning her message.

Cyrus said, “This MC Is Gonna Stand by This MC,” adding, “This is just too iconic.”

She claimed she was “stuck in the rain and traffic” and expressed concern that she would “miss” the evening’s first prize. “And I could have missed the award, that’s fine, but not Mariah Carey,” she stated. It was everything when I saw you in the Hollywood Bowl.

“I received my lucky No. 3 seat and so there’s a story I want to tell that wraps up that moment and I wasn’t going to tell it, but now Mariah’s here,” she explained.

The first track off Cyrus’s album Endless Summer Vacation was her self-love hymn. Following its release, it became the most-streamed song on Spotify in a single week and topped the US Billboard charts for eight weeks.

Carey, 54, said, “This song ‘Flowers’ is my butterfly,” after uttering the word “Aw” in the background while Cyrus told the story behind the song. “I’m grateful”, she concluded.
