Accomplished actor Luke Judy is adding musician to his resume. Luke’s band Duplexity, which also includes his sister Savannah Judy, is releasing their first single ‘Billboards’ on August 2nd. This upbeat single will be streaming on all platforms and their fans will love it! I was thrilled when Luke took time out of his busy schedule for an interview about his new single and his new venture as part of the Indie Rock duo Duplexity.

You are an actor and singer/songwriter. Why do you think social media is important for young actors?

I think social media is especially important for young people in the entertainment industry because not only is it a great form of self-expression, but it is also a way to keep people updated on what you are working on and what you are doing in preparation for your next project. Plus, it helps grow your fan base which is becoming more and more important in the industry.

Do you have any advice for your followers on how to handle negative comments on their social media?

My advice to anyone that is receiving negative comments online or even in person is to try and ignore them. There will always be those people who are looking for drama or that just want to make you feel as bad as they do. As hard as it is, try not to let it affect you. Chances are you are doing something awesome, and they are just jealous. Keep your head high and be the better person!

How do you come up with ideas for your music?

I am inspired by so many things; life, music, art, people and feelings to name a few. I am constantly thinking of ideas for songs and scripts and writing them down. Ever since I started acting, I noticed I would find myself saying “that would be an awesome scene or script idea”.  Now it’s the same with songwriting. I find myself thinking “that’s an awesome idea for a song or name for a song.”

How did your music career come about?

Starting a career in music has been the most natural process I have experienced. Being in a musical family, we have always been around music and instruments. When I was really little my sister Savannah and I loved putting on shows in our living room for our parents. When we got a little older, we started playing Guitar Hero on our Xbox. After we moved to LA we started going to The School of Rock where we took voice and music lessons and had our first experiences performing on stage with a band. All of this was the foundation that led us to a garage band with our friends and eventually forming Duplexity, our Indie rock sibling duo.

You have worked on a lot of projects. What has been your favorite project so far?

I have been really fortunate to have had so many great experiences. My favorite project so far is Duplexity, the Indie Rock Duo with Savannah! This project has been a dream come true for us both. Every step of the way has been incredible. From coming up with the idea to start a duo to releasing our first single ‘Billboards’. I think my favorite part is being able to have so much creative control on a project and be able to decide the details together.

How important do you think networking is to a budding career?

I think networking is one of the most important things you can do to help you launch your career. In the entertainment industry the network you build from the beginning is what is going to help keep you working throughout your career. For example, we have been offered jobs that we didn’t audition for because someone in production knew us or had worked with one of us in the past. That is the best feeling ever!

Are there any upcoming projects you can share with our readers?

The upcoming project I am the most excited about is Duplexity’s original music. We have been working in the studio and are set to release a 5 song EP in October. The first single is the title track ‘Billboards’. It is a nod to our journey as child actors in the entertainment industry. We cannot wait to share our music with the world!
