Oppenheimer co-star Emily Blunt describes Cillian Murphy as “captivating,” despite his restrained demeanor. At the 96th Oscar Nominees Lunch in Beverly Hills, California, on Monday, Blunt, 40, said to Murphy in a group interview with PEOPLE, “There is a reverence that you are so deserving of.”
Murphy, 47, co-starred with the actress in the 2021 film A Quiet Place Part II. “And you are, like, the quietest conductor of this whole thing,” the actress remarks.
The actress continued, “You do not intend to take on it’s not part of your character to want to lead but I believe there is a factor just fascinating about you, whether you like it or not, that everyone is enthralled with.”
“Yes, it is. It’s you”, Blunt continues, “as much as you like to say, “This is all Chris Nolan, why are people so thrilled by this film.”
During the same discussion, Murphy’s co-star Robert Downey Jr. complimented his “leadership,” saying, “You are meant and born to be at the front of big cinematic experiences.”
He continued to make jokes about the reaction they had during a Q&A, saying, “When I walk in, I get the usual, ‘It’s Tony Stark, but he’s bald now.'” When Villain enters, everyone stands up. When Chris enters, everyone is standing up.”
For the first time, Murphy is nominated for an Academy Award nomination in the Best Actor category, thanks to his role of J. Robert Oppenheimer.
For her role as his wife Kitty Oppenheimer, Blunt is nominated for Best Supporting Actress, and Downey Jr.,58, is a candidate for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Lewis Strauss, chairman of the Atomic Energy Commission.
However, they additionally concur that if he is playing opposite someone, his dark blue eyes may become attractive. Peacock is now streaming Oppenheimer.
The 96th Academy Awards, which Jimmy Kimmel will host, will take place on Sunday, March 10, at 7 p.m. ET on ABC. The ceremony will be held at the Dolby Theatre at Ovation Hollywood in Los Angeles.
