The music industry is ever-changing, but the musicians who keep it going are timeless. I wonder how uniquely blessed they are to have magic in their words and how it continues to change our lives. We’re happy to have Jade Starling in the special interview session today!
For some, music is a passion that never grows old. For others, it’s a way of life. And for Jade Starling, it’s both. She’s been into music for over three decades and has plenty of hits under her belt.
Jade was born and raised in New Jersey, where she learned about music from her parents. Nowadays, she is happily married, spends plenty of time with loved ones, and continues to stay on top of the industry with her work as a singer, songwriter, make-up artist, and vocal coach.
Our readers will be excited to learn more about Jade, her journey in the music industry, her achievements, her success story, and how her life has been in her words. I would like to begin the question session here.
It’s been more than thirty-five years since your presence in the music industry. What is it that keeps you so active in this field even today?
JADE : Music is my passion, and my career has always been and continues to be Rewarding. My music is healing and uplifting and has helped so many people. This is what truly fills my heart and soul with joy!! The warmth and appreciation I receive from my fans keep me writing more, singing more, and spreading love.
How do you see yourself as a musician? What makes you different from other artists?
Jade: Well, I think every artist is different from others because every person lives differently with their own set of experiences, so that each artist will bring something new and fresh into the world through their artistry. But some things are similar among all artists; for instance, we all need to be inspired by something.
One thing that sets me apart from other musicians is that I am inspired by the world around me and my surroundings, which makes me want to create something new and exciting. Being creative allows us to express ourselves in a way that allows us to control what we feel in our hearts and minds.
When it comes down to it, music can help people express themselves by feeling emotions they may not be able to put into words otherwise.
You have written many hit songs in your career, and I am sure you are still going. Please shed light on your records, so our readers can be more aware of your achievements.
Jade: We have sold millions of records, and we have been awarded a Gold and Platinum album for the hit single “Catch Me I’m Falling.” In addition, I and my co-songwriter, Whey Cooler, have won ASCAP awards in songwriting and film. Numerous films and tv shows have included my music.
The song “Catch Me I’m Falling” has been featured in many well-known movies, including “Hiding Out” starring John Cryer, “You Don’t Mess with the Zohan” starring Adam Sandler, and more recently featured in the #1 Netflix series The Jeffrey Dalmer: Monster.
Whey Cooler and I have had many Billboard hits, such as 1988 “Catch Me I’m Falling,” which went to #1 dance, #8 pop, and #13 R&B. The 1989 hit “Nighttime” was the #1 dance and #13 pop, and the 1989 “When I Look into Your Eyes” went #1 Dance.
My solo record “So Alive” went to #1 on the UK indie Chart and #9 on the UK Pop chart. It also got airplay in iheartradio stations and Siriusxm stations Pitbull and BMP.
I know you are passionate about music but did you ever feel your profession prohibited you from something? And do you remember any situation in that you hated your profession?
Jade: It is true that I have been prevented sometimes from doing what I love most because of my profession, but it is not because of the job itself. Music is my passion, and I wanted to pursue it as a career since childhood.
I am so grateful for music. It has given me more than I expected: fame, opportunities to do tours, perform before millions of people and explore places. The only drawback is sometimes being away from loved ones on Holidays and Special Occasions.
You have a fantastic voice, stage presence, and the skill to mesmerize your audience. I’m sure your fans love that side of you—and it’s clear that you’re a great performer. Would you like to tell me more qualities of yours?
Jade: I am a compassionate human being when it comes to others less fortunate. I enjoy helping people; I am a generous person with a big heart and a positive outlook on life.
Even when things aren’t going well, I’m always smiling and laughing. I love helping others whenever possible by giving them advice or being there when they need someone to talk to.
What are some of your strengths?
Jade: My strengths are that I’m an extremely positive person and a great motivator for others.
What are some of your weaknesses?
Jade: I wouldn’t call it a Weakness, but I’m tough on myself. I always strive to do Better at Everything I do!!
What are the beliefs that keep you motivated?
Jade: If you want something bad enough and work hard, you can “do anything and achieve all your hopes and dreams.” I also believe in God as my source of strength and purpose. I pray daily for good health, prosperity, and happiness for all my loved ones.
Every day is not the same. Sometimes even the strongest person can give up in a difficult situation. Do you remember such a situation in that you felt incapable of dealing with a problem?
Jade: I was recently hospitalized with a Kidney Stone related infection and spent 5 days in the ICU. It was so bad I almost died, so it has made me advocate for women’s health and how we as women need to take better care of ourselves, especially with our busy, demanding schedules.
During my time in the hospital, I learned how hard it could be to care for yourself. I’ve been there; I know it’s hard to prioritize your needs when you’re busy. But if you don’t take care of yourself, nothing else matters.
What would be your message to the public?
Jade: My message to the public would be – Share your love with me. Let me heal you and uplift you through my music. Let me share this love directly from my heart and soul with yours.
What projects are you doing currently?
Jade: I am working with a Very Talented young singer and actress named Sasha Anne. I have been vocal coaching and mentoring her and Co-Producing her first original single, “Scars.” It’s been so amazing working with her and helping to guide her musical career.
I am glad you are sharing your knowledge with others and mentoring them. Do you have any mentors in your life?
Jade: My mentor is Whey Cooler, my Songwriting partner, Multi-instrumentalist, and Producer from our Award-winning group Pretty Poison. He has always encouraged me to be the Best at Everything I do!!
