Lucas Lockwood wears many hats in the entertainment industry. His desire to express his own creativity and his ability as a master storyteller has led him not only down the acting path, but also was the driving force behind starting his own production company. This is a man that is always striving to better himself every day. I recently had the pleasure of interviewing him about the industry and his plans for the future.
As an actor who has been in the business for a while, how do you think social media has changed the industry?
Social media has drastically impacted the entertainment industry, offering a personal glimpse into actors’ lives beyond résumés. It gives casting professionals insights into personalities, passions, and interests, helping them better view these entertainers. I use social media to showcase my talents and aspects of my life you may not see in a movie I’m in. Using social media allows for a more authentic connection with filmmakers and my audiences to get to know the true me.
Do you have any advice for your followers on how to handle negative comments on their social media?
In managing negative comments on social media, my recommended approach begins with maintaining a calm and composed demeanor. It’s crucial to avoid reacting impulsively out of emotion and instead take a moment to thoughtfully consider your response. Secondly, I suggest validating the accuracy of the comment before deciding whether it merits a response. Choosing your battles wisely is key. Lastly, I advocate for shifting the focus towards positivity and encouraging interactions on the platform.
What was the catalyst for your decision to start your own production company?
Starting my own production company was driven by a combination of factors that served as catalysts for this decision: Passion for creativity, freedom, flexibility, and personal growth. I have always been deeply passionate about the creative process, storytelling, and bringing ideas to life. Starting a production company allowed me to immerse myself fully in the world of creative expression. It also allowed me to explore diverse projects and collaborate with like-minded individuals. The journey of being an entrepreneur represents a personal challenge and an opportunity for my continuous growth. It allows me to learn from both successes and setbacks, contributing to my overall development. So, by combining these thoughts, I felt compelled to establish Lockwood Entertainment, creating a space where creativity, innovation, and collaboration could thrive.
What is your favorite moment from being on the set of any of your projects?
One of my favorite moments was on the set of the TV show SWAT on Netflix. The experience was truly thrilling, portraying a police officer amidst explosive scenes, high-speed chases, and intense street action. Working alongside talented actors like Shemar Moore, David Lim, Jay Harrington, and Alex Russell added to the excitement. Running in the rain with co-star Anna Ritch to catch bad guys brought a sense of joy and exhilaration reminiscent of childhood adventures. It was a remarkable and unforgettable experience that showcased the dynamic and exciting aspects of being on set.
You have been to some red-carpet events. What has been your favorite event so far?
My favorite red carpet-experience has to be attending the Annie Awards, an event that celebrates excellence in the field of animation. The year I attended was particularly special because some of my all-time favorite animated movies were released, making it an unforgettable night. Walking the red carpet alongside iconic figures like Angelina Jolie and Zach Galifianakis was a surreal experience, and the opportunity to interact with talented filmmakers and actors added to the magic of the evening.
Meeting industry legends like Tom Kenny, the voice behind SpongeBob, and Anthony Gonzalez from ‘Coco’ was a dream come true. One of the highlights for me was interacting with creators who had contributed to iconic characters like Godzilla. Seeing the faces behind these legendary creations and witnessing their passion for their craft was a truly rewarding feeling.
How important do you think networking is to a career?
Networking is absolutely crucial in our industry. Talent alone isn’t always enough; it’s about making connections and ensuring that people know who you are. In a competitive field, visibility is key, and networking provides the platform for that visibility.
Having connections with individuals who can showcase your talents or provide opportunities in their projects can significantly accelerate your career.
Beyond career advancement, building relationships helps you find the necessary resources, collaborators, and support to bring your creative endeavors to life.
In our industry, collaboration is key. It transforms from a give-and-take approach to a mutual exchange of ideas, resources, and support. This not only promotes professional growth but also creates a community where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
Are there any upcoming projects you can share with our readers?
As of now, I’m excited to share that my team at Lockwood Entertainment and I have been working on two thrilling series. One draws inspiration from the dynamic blend of ‘New Girl’ and ‘The Boys,’ promising an exciting and unique viewing experience. While the titles are still under consideration, the anticipation is building, and I can’t wait to see the reaction from fans when these projects come to life.
