Savannah Judy is an actress with an impressive body of work and now this young talent is adding singer/songwriter to her resume. Her debut single “Billboards” is streaming on all platforms August 2nd. The single will be the first of many with her band Duplexity which also includes brother Luke Judy. Savannah took time out of the studio for an interview about her budding music career as well as thoughts on social media.

You are an actor and singer/songwriter. Why do you think social media is important for young actors?

I think social media is important for young actors like me because it is a way for them to connect with people who follow their work. It gives a little bit of a behind the scenes peek into what the life of an actor truly is. Sometimes people not in the industry think actors have an easy life when in reality being an actor is a lot of hard work and preparation. The work you see is the “tip of the iceberg” in an actor’s career.

Do you have any advice for your followers on how to handle negative comments on their social media?

My advice to people on how to handle negativity toward them on social media is to just ignore it and don’t let it get into your head space. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone has haters. Unfortunately, the internet trolls will always express their opinion the loudest but as my mom says, “consider the source!”

How do you come up with ideas for your music?

For me inspiration is not one formula. I am inspired by so many things. I love to draw, sometimes I will be drawing something and then find inspiration for lyrics within the piece. Kinda like a puzzle, you have this picture and then there is a journey assembling all the pieces to get the end result. In the end you get two versions of the same image.

How did your music career come about?

I have been planning my music career my whole life. Music has always been a huge part of my life and family. The first time I performed live on stage at 12 years old, I said to my mom after my first song “this is what I want to do for the rest of my life!” Ever since then I have been eagerly planning and waiting to be old enough to enter the music business.

You have worked on a lot of projects. What has been your favorite project so far?

My most favorite project so far is Duplexity the Indie Rock Duo I formed with my brother Luke Judy. Every step of this journey has been the best experience of my life. I love making and performing original music, planning performances and deciding all the details together. It has already been a dream come true! I am so excited to see where it takes us!

How important do you think networking is to a budding career?

I think networking is a fundamental aspect of any career but especially important for a career in the entertainment business.  Whether you are an actor, singer, or songwriter your entire career depends on people knowing not only who you are but also need to be familiar with your work. Networking is a good way to get yourself out there and make necessary connections for future projects.

Are there any upcoming projects you can share with our readers? The most exciting project on the horizon is Duplexity’s 5 song EP. The first single off the EP is ‘Billboards’ which is a duet performed by Luke and me. It’s about our journey as child actors and growing up in LA.
